Maintenance versus Missional

I don’t know if you have heard this kind of language - Maintenance Churches and Missional Churches. You may have noticed that I have a banner on the side that says Friend of Missional. You can click on that banner and read more about missional churches. Recently an elderly gentleman heard someone say that we need to be missional and have very specific missional objectives. The elderly gentleman’s response was, “We support missions and take many mission trips.” Well, while that is great, that is not what people mean when they say missional, or missional churches. Read the missional website to find out more about being missional. The purpose of this post is to direct your attention to Wade Hodge’s blog for a list of 12 differences between Maintenance Churches and Missional Churches.

Gilbert, I appreciate your comments. I read through the sites, and totally agree. As was said in home bible study this week, “we as a church community need to be a hospital for the sick, not a hotel for the saints.” I have really felt called recently to do missions. I hope you will read my most recent blog entry and keep me and my endeavors in your prayers-and when can I babysit?!
