In Psalm 68:6 we are told that God makes a home for the lonely. God has a tremendous concern for the hurting and lonely in the world. The Gospel is good news for the poor, for the orphan, for the widow, for the sinner, etc… But the Gospel is also good news for the one’s we often miss – the lonely. They are invisible and ignored a lot of times. There are lonely people all around us and we seldom take the time to notice.
I believe that God envisioned the church being a home for the lonely. The problem is that I hear so many people in church who suffer from loneliness. They claim to not have any friends, or anyone who cares. They are lonely. Maybe it is just a percieved loneliness. Maybe they really have people all around them who care, but they are too hurt to notice. But I don’t believe that is always the case. What if we really are failing at making the church a home for the lonely?
Can you imagine what would happen in our churches if we spent a little less time focusing on budgets, worship styles, complainers, etc… and spent more time focusing on the lonely, not only in our own churches, but in our communities?
AMEN, preach on brother.
