I have never been to the ACU Lectureships. I really wish I was there this now. Have you seen the lineup of speakers? Jerry Taylor, Randy Harris, Don McLaughlin, and Josh Graves just to name a few. Good stuff. Maybe I’ll make it sometime in the future.

Yesterday I got a surprise from UPS. My mother-in-law felt the need to purchase some books for me from my wish list on Amazon.com. I’m excited about jumping into each of these books. She got me:
Peculiar Speech: Preaching to the Baptized by William Willimon
Living Jesus by Luke Timothy Johnson
The Four Voices of Preaching by Robert Reid
Wrigley Blues by Will Wagner
————————————–
Anyone got any good books they have read lately?
What do you think your mother-in-law is trying to tell you? 🙂
Preaching with Confidence – by James Daane is pretty good.
I was trying to figure that out.
“Safely Home” by Randy Alcorn (or anything by Mr. Alcorn) An eyeopening account of the persecuted Church and the intense love for the Word that is shown by those who have to hide the Holy Scriptures. He also has great books on Heaven!

I finished reading “The Son of Laughter” by Frederick Buechner. It’s a fictional account of Jacob, the son of Isaac (hence the title, since Isaac means “laughter”). It hold true to the biblical account, but adds the day-to-day details you do not get from the Bible.
I wasn’t sure I would like it. I was wondering if I should find it disrepectful to embellish the text, but I really enjoyed it. I felt like I was immersed in the story. You could feel the heat of the desert, sense the tension at times such as when Jacob returned to Esau — not knowing what Esau’s reaction would be.
