I’ve really been enjoying Scot McKnight’s books lately. I like his writing style and I like a lot of his theology. I’d like to meet him sometime and hear his thoughts on my particular faith heritage, Churches of Christ.
A few years ago I read his book, Embracing Grace. I remember really liking it, but I need to go back and read it again because I have forgotten a lot of it. I have not learned the art of reading and retaining very well. I have just finished his latest book, The Blue Parakeet. It was excellent, and his discussion on women’s role in ministry at the end of the book is very thought provoking. I’ve read through A Community Called Atonement, but I have not finished it. And I have one other McKnight book on my shelf that I have not gotten to yet, Praying With the Church. I look forward to reading through that one too.
I have also been slowly reading through Philip Yancey’s book, Prayer. It is a really open and honest look at wrestling with prayer. I think Yancey does a wonderful job, or at least he has so far. I’ll give you a better grade when I finish it.
Any other good books out there being read right now?
