Starting a new sermon series is always fun, but a little nerve racking too. You want others to enjoy it and connect with it, but you never know if that is going to happen until you start it. Anyway, I’m excited about the upcoming series. This Sunday I will start a series called Beginnings. It will be based on the first few chapters of Genesis. Whats crazy is that this seems to be a popular topic right now. I have already found a handful of other ministers that are doing a a similar series right now.
I have no intentions of reading Genesis scientifically. I’m not going to debate whether or not the creation week was literally 7 – 24hr days. I’m not going to turn Moses into a scientist who wrote a scientific treatise defending creationism over evolution. Sometimes I’m worried that we try to make Genesis answer questions that Genesis was never meant to answer (and quite honestly doesn’t seemed overly concerned about them). I’m going to let Moses be a theologian and let Genesis be a book that tells us the story of God. Here are my sermon titles:
- This Is Our Story
- The God of Order
- Image is Everything
- Shattered Images
I may dig a little further and have more sermons, but that is all I have for now.

Yesterday I spent most of the morning with ministers from all different denominations in Lafayette and West Lafayette. I have mentioned this gathering before. We meet once a month for a breakfast and discussions about the community. Yesterday we discussed the idea of having a gigantic joint worship service on Easter of next year. Instead of guest in the community trying to figure which church to visit on Easter they could all just show up to this Easter celebration and witness the unified efforts of churches throughout the city. Like most ministers in the meeting I thought this was an awesome idea, full of power, but I also saw a lot of potential problems that would make this difficult to pull off. That was the consensus of everyone in the room. We will continue to play with that idea and see where it goes.
Has anyone every been a part of something like this?

The Cubs look terrible right now, but it is way too early to panic. They are only two games into the season. Don’t give up on Woody as the closer… Don’t give up on Pie in center… Too late, but they shouldn’t give up on Soriano in the two spot (Pineilla has already changed him back to the lead-off spot)… Don’t give up on the offense.
Everything will come together. It is just two games!!!!!!!

I’ve already mentioned this once and didn’t get a response, but I’ll try again. Anyone plan on going to the RESOURCE Seminar at Rochester College in May? I’d love to meet you if you do.
Hey Gilbert,
I loved the Italy pics! Hope you had a great time:) God bless Randy for his work there! What a heart he must have:)
As for Easter, yes, we have done something very similar. In the tiny town we lived in in Montana (pop:1500) We had an event called “Soup & Service”. On the Wednesday nights leading up to Easter, we met at a different church each week. The hosting church would serve soup and bread (a simple meal) for everyone, then their minister would present a lesson; along with time for singing and prayer. The lessons titles were decided by the Ministerial Association, but the lessons were prepared by the individual ministers. (Similar to the group you’re meeting with, I’m sure.) Each year, the number of participating churches grows, so I think they had 7 or so Wednesday’s planned this year. It was a great time of fellowship!
I’m excited to hear what you guys decide on. I’m proud of you for just meeting with this group. What an example of unity in Christ.
